New Trails in Pittsburgh--Mt Washington Park

Postby PTAG on Mon Jul 26, 2010 11:10 am

PTAG is working with the Mt. Washington Community Development Corp to build some pretty sweet single track in the wooded areas that wrap around Mt Washington. For more details, and how to get involved check out the PTAG web page.

Are Incline-Assisted gravity d/h trails part of the master plan?

Who needs Whistler when we have Mt. Washington and the "Grandview Trail"?

If you're going to do it, do it right!

How many miles do you expect to make into good off camber riding trails ?
The box, you opened it, we came.
Now you must come with us, taste our pleasures.
We have such sights to show you !.

The PTAG site has been updated, with info--not much yet.

There are an estimated 9 miles of trail planned. These include some existing trails, but there is a lot of new singletrack to design and build.

PTAG has recommended development of downhill options (for sessioning via the Duquesne incline) but that option is well into the future and needs a lot of community support.

The coolest thing will be for folks who work downtown, to be able to take a ride on singletrack at lunchtime. Using the Incline for a speedy ascent.

Wow this is over the top. Can you give us the general idea of the trail layouts. Where you think they might be placed and where the trail heads might be. PTAG poster, who are you?

PTAG generally posts as a board.

To all with the great ideas: consider coming to meetings and getting involved if you want to share ideas, want to be part of the plan, or just want to stay informed. The Church Brew Works is next to where we meet @ Bike Pgh HQ (and if not there, then the Terminal Way Buildings on the SS where there are also plenty o' places for a meal and beers before or after meeting). Check new PTAG site for details.

Shred my man, Biber, Trun and Greninger are the board POCs for Mt. Washington project. There is also a new steward up there who lives there. Feel free to drop them a line individually. We can also put you in contact with the steward. You gonna like him...

Yes, I'm planning on showing up at the next board meeting. Monday August 9th at 6:30 correct? I want to hear what's in store for Mt Washington. This is amazing stuff. Honestly when I read the first post I thought maybe someone got ahold of the PTAG login and was yanking our chain. This is good stuff.

Can you imagine what an amazing tourist draw an incline-serviced downhill course would be?!! Holy crap!

Im with justin...

We have done quite a bit off camber leveling in the past with other trails we have built, if properly planned and executed a well built dh trail on mt washington would be a HUGE step for mountain biking in the area. That trail would get a ton of press...from around the country...

Someone please let me know when the planning phases will happen for this...i got me some ideas...

This is huge for the Pittsburgh Mountain Bike scene.

Biber, if we can rally the troops and get a design together is there anything stopping us from creating the dh trail, of course after everything is planned and approved?

What needs to happen in terms of community support to allow for incline access, im sure there is some red tape there but man this should be a focus right now, this would be a huge draw.

out of curiosity why ' No downhill MTB trails are currently planned'...is that because no one has stepped up and planned them?

Talk about good press for Pittsburgh mountain biking and PTAG...if done properly there really isnt anything like this in the country...let's get the 'planning' moving i'll happily volunteer my time.

Great news about the new trails, living in the Strip I love the idea of more trails I can ride to... I will keep checking back for work scheduls

With projects like the Seattle Colonnade and even locally DR. J ..... a gravity run down would be amazing....count me in as another volunteer and I cant believe there are not more people screaming this!

agreed! i would love to see a downhill trail or two on mt washington. no reason they can't happily coexist with xc trails as dr j is doing in north park.
