Brilliant...considering the internet is one massive COMMUNICATION tool and they don't use it to communicate.

DNS servers not routers. Routers take packets and route them to where they need to go (via the ip addr and voodoo mathematics). The DNS Servers are queried to resolve ip addr's to an actual host name.

Sorry as a network engineer I'm a stickler for that.

You're still showing an external DNS server in the cloud..: Then again, routers (typically the home ones) simply forward DNS and occasionally can have a small static table (similar to a hosts file), but overall they don't follow the Bind specification for DNS... (then again I'm finding as of late few do anymore and it's starting to piss me off)

right but the external DNS isn't used...xyz.com translates into 192.168.0.2 which is in internal entry on the router, not the 172.18.0.1 which is the external entry on a DNS server.

probably a hard discussion to have through a forum...

Well, I see your point, but that's more static NAT addressing or small dns table, and that's only used for small segments. (Well, nat is widely used for private networks) but it's still not a DNS server in the Bind sense.

Now where is the beer... (No more techie talk!)
