Mingo?

Has anyone been out there in the last couple of weeks? Is it worth going?

Thanks.

Went hiking at Mingo yesterday. Most of the snow is packed down on the trails from other hikers. I didn't see any mtb tire tracks though.

Hey guys, sorry for the interruption, but I was wondering where Mingo is. I'm assuming it's off of Mingo road in Wexford area? I live in Cranberry and am always looking for local trails besides North park for quick rides after work. I don't see it listed on the "Places to Ride" list. Any trail maps out there? Is that state game lands?

Thanks!

Mingo Creek park. It's actually about as far south of the city as you're thinking it is north.

There are some trails in Sewickeley but I don't know where. Thought about Moraine?

Ah, ok. Thanks. I have thought about Moraine. Keep hearing how tech it is and I'm wondering if I'm up to it yet, heh. Is it rideable for a beginner? I'll definitely be giving it a try this spring either way.

I'll do some snooping on those sewickeley trails. Thanks!

If you have a handheld gps motionbased is a great site to get maps from to load in. I have downloaded maps from there that other people made and though they are not perfect it's still better than going out by yourself and having no clue. If you don't have a gps, I think you can view and print them on google maps too which might help some.

I started visiting Moraine last fall when I was only a couple of months into riding. There are parts that are pretty technical, and other parts that are beginner/intermediate friendly. Just try it all - you'll see what it has to offer and where you need to improve and you just might surprise yourself with the stuff you can already ride.

If you're looking for alternative riding near Cranberry, try Knob Hill Park or Sewickley Heights Park. Both are small but have some decent riding in them. There's also a ton of quad trails just off the east side of 79 north of the Cranberry exit.

Moraine is a great place to learn how to use clipless pedals!

lol, since this has turned into a Moraine post... It was actually the first place I ever mountain biked, many moons ago. I wouldn't consider it anywhere near beginner level but you may love it. Just remember to walk when you're not sure you can ride and you'll live to ride another day. Also ride with others because cell coverage is spotty at best.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm not beginner enough for rail trails (except with my wife) but am totally fine with walking my bike around stuff I know I can't handle.

Jim - Thanks for the tips on Cranberry. I'll have to figure out where knob hill park is. As for the quad trails east of 79, I'm very familiar with those! The left side of my house is bordered by that area with a main trailhead going in right at my driveway. There's some short but fun riding back there, but a lot of the trails are so rutted and muddy most of the time that it's tough to ride. Regardless, I'm back there all the time riding and walking my dog.

Yeah, Learn fast or die.

Instead of looking for fast rolling tires, you should try some fast pedaling legs. -DP
